Time is escaping from us! – Adjustments to the schedule

Well, it looks like time is not our best friend, since we won’t have the right DVDs in for the right weeks.

Luckily, it’s a simple fix!  This week, we will be showing Garzey’s Wing during the first half of showing.  And then next week, we should have Harmageddon ready to go!  Also note that Mars of Destruction was not released in the US, so we won’t be able to show it at all (more Harmageddon to enjoy!).  However, since it’s widely considered to be one of the worst anime ever created, we highly encourage you to find a way to watch it on your own.

Anyways, get ready to enjoy this month of Unintentional Comedy!  We’ve got some of the most terrible things to ever grace the screen, so be excited!

What are we even doing anymore? – The Spring Schedule!

If you thought that last semester’s schedule was wacky, you might want to sit down and hold onto something before you look at the schedule we’ve got planned for you this time around.  Coming together at the absolute last minute, we’ve got more random shows stacked up front, some crazy-odd special nights, and (due to timing) the ENTIRE MONTH OF MARCH is devoted to some incredibly funny series that were never meant to be funny.

Last minute substitution: MECHA NIGHT

Discotek acquired the license for Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo early in 2012.  We were counting on them releasing this series on DVD, but that still hasn’t happened.  And so, we’re forced to make a substitution.

Instead of Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo, we will be showing the series that finished next in our voting, The Vision of Escaflowne.  As this was voted in as two episodes, this will also push out one episode of G Gundam.  Don’t worry, though, there’s still one more in the schedule!

Whether you like Magic the Gathering, trivia, video games, live performances or anything else, we will try to have something to keep you occupied. As seen above, the event will take place in RPCC starting at about 8pm.

CJAS Doujin Day

Like to draw? Want an art challenge? If so, then do we have an event for you!

This Saturday, April 7th, starting at noon, the Cornell Japanese Animation Society is hosting a doujin creation marathon, somewhere in Goldwin Smith Hall! Check out the poster attached for kitties and information.

Not sure what a doujin is? It’s basically any amateur work, and in this case, we will be trying to put together a short comic in under 24 hours!

Can’t draw? Doesn’t matter! We need a story too, after all! If you can write a story, you can contribute!

In short we need people who can: Write, storyboard, draw, line, shade, and have fun! No need to bring anything aside from yourself as we will be providing food, drinks, and art supplies for everyone interested and attending.

Hope to see you guys there!

Plamo Building – TOMORROW

Hey guys, who here likes robots? Who here likes toys? Who likes building robot toys? Well then, do we have the event for you. Tomorrow, February 24th, at 7pm in Goldwin Smith Hall, we will be having our semesterly Plamo event.

What is Plamo you ask? Plamo stands for plastic models. What you do is order a plastic model kit from any retailer, and build the toy by following the directions and snapping the appropriate piece off a tray. You then snap it together, and you have yourself a toy!

As we are advertising this event late, we unfortunately do not have any spare kits to give out to walk-ins, but we will be having other events going on during the event to keep you occupied. We will be showing mecha-related activities as we build the model kits, and I’m certain that there will be plenty of interesting discussion going on.

Again, 2/24 at 7pm in Goldwin Smith Hall, Plamo building and mecha watching. See you there.

Anime Angels Artbook Announcement

Former president of CJAS, Bruce Hahne ’93 has been working on compiling an artbook for the past several months. We are proud to present the announcement of the book, and where one can order it. Details are in the following press release:

Sunnyvale, California – (January 23, 2012) Newcomer anime publishing company Maron Media today announced the preorder availability of Anime Angels, a new 100-page original-character artbook featuring the work of 66 anime artists from 22 countries. All of the artworks are based around the book’s title, “anime angels”, with each contributing artist bringing her or his own interpretation to this overall theme.

“It’s been fantastic to see the response from the global Japanese animation fan community”, said editor and project lead Bruce Hahne. “What began as a local artbook project in the San Franciso Bay Area has taken on a life of its own, with artist participation from all over the world. We’ve got many different art styles, different approaches, and different cultures participating, but it all comes together under the anime angels theme.”

Anime Angels features commissioned cover artwork by well-known Canadian artist Shilin Huang, with cover and interior layout and design by Finni Chang. “Multi-artist anime fan projects like this one don’t come along too often,” noted Finni, whose art also features in the book. “It’s great to see an ensemble work like this put together in a way that both anime fans, and character art fans, will be able to enjoy.”

Consistent with the community spirit of the project, all art is published under a profit-sharing arrangement with the artists, who receive both an up-front payment for their contributions as well as a portion of the profits from every book sold. This approach is something of a rarity among group-created character artbook projects, which often expect artists to contribute their work for free.

Anime Angels is available now through mid-March for special preorder on kickstarter.com — see http://kck.st/xxAxVU , also linked from www.AnimeAngelsBook.com — in both softcover and hardcover releases. Kickstarter-only bonuses include art cards, prints, and a poster set. The book will officially launch at Fanimecon 2012 in San Jose, California, just prior to its general release.

About the Anime Angels project: From its beginnings in May 2011 with the recruiting of initial artist participants at Fanimecon San Jose (www.fanime.com), the Anime Angels artbook project has grown far beyond expectations to include both professional and emerging amateur artists from 22 countries.
