I have just learned that an Iowa man is being prosecuted for possessing what the state deems "obscene" cartoons. More details can be found here- http://www.cbldf.org/pr/archives/000372.shtml This is a blatant violation of first ammendment rights. It should in no way be legal to prosecute a man for possessing artwork of any kind and we all need to take a stand now before a terrible precedent is set. I encourage all of you to donate to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund to help in the defense of this man, lest our right of freedom of speech continue to be eroded.

As a lover of lolicon, I am extremely outraged at such blatant breaching of first amendment rights. The man in question could have been me if I actually ordered stuff from Amazon Japan (granted I have not done so yet).

I am donating to this worthy cause.

Well, from what I know of obscenity law, the determination of what is obscene depends upon your community. Considering the community (in Iowa), I think there's no question that they would think the material is offensive (while it most likely wouldn't be in most areas of California, for example). The only issue really is whether they think it qualifies as art.

So, Eric, this probably would never happen to you unless you lived in a rural, conservative state.
