Tidbit 1
Energists -- Gaia's power source. It is a refined form of the Energist mineral, and the redder it is, the stronger its power. A Drago-energist is formed by condensation as the dragon eats the mineral throughout its life. Now, it was explained at the beginning of the story that guymelefs are powered by energists. It's obvious that Escaflowne has an energist on its chest and a Drago-energist within it, but the green stones on its shoulders are also energists, meaning Escaflowne has a total of 4. Small wonder it's so powerful... (By the way, Sherazade and Dilandau's melef both have 2, and Alseides have (had) 1.)

Tidbit 2
The opening and the ending visuals supposedly contain Hitomi's feelings and Van's feelings, respectively, as they change throughout all 26 episodes. The ending is rather figurative, but the opening, especially, contains elements from every part of the show. Does that mean that there will be a battle between Escaflowne and Sherazade? We'll see...

"Say, it would be neat if this thing turned into a dragon." Escaflowne got its wings by this one whim from its creator, Shouji Kawamori (incidentally, also the creator of Macross).
