????: "In this episode, the year 994 A.D. was also referred to as Shouryaku Era, Fifth Year. In Japan's olden times, years are specified by an era name and which year of the era it is. The name of the era usually changes when a new Emperor inherits the throne, but can change due to other reasons, like the discovery of copper deposits and so forth.
????: "The year 994 A.D. also falls squarely in the middle of the Heian Period, which was a five-hundred year long segment of flourishing culture and art in Japanese history."
????: "Ryuuya's rank, Lower Full Eighth Rank(shouhachiige) is actually one of the lowest ranks there is, with only one rank below him for his division. Since he is part of the Left Division of the Guardsmen of the Gate(saemon), the title of his position for that rank is called daisakan. The Guardsmen of the Gate were generally charged with guarding the gates to the capital."
