Autumn Madness! – The Fall Schedule

We’ve got some massive changes coming up this semester! Shortened showings, first half previews, and special events are heading your way! The new schedule for the semester is right below, and click on through for a description of everything going on, as well as information about our shows!

Fall 2012

We start up on August 25th in Godwin Smith Lewis Auditorium with movie night. Come by at 6:30 for Millenium Actress, and stick around until 8:30 for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

Make sure to come by for our other 2 special nights, What Is That? on September 22nd, and MECHA SHOWING on November 17th. What Is That? focuses on showing off some of the strangest shows we were able to come up with, while MECHA SHOWING gives you a taste of some of the greatest robot series. MECHA SHOWING also closes on the epic first half conclusion of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, so you won’t want to miss it!

Also don’t miss the special Studio Ghibli movies playing in the Cornell Cinema the weeks of November 3rd and 10th. At the end of those nights, we end showing a little early to move over to the cinema. Don’t forget to buy your tickets!

And if you’re wondering what those question marks on the schedule are for, that’s our Current Season Mystery Slot!!! All new CJAS members will have the opportunity to make their opinions known on what show currently running on Crunchyroll they would like to see.

Millennium Actress:

A documentary filmmaker investigates the life of an elderly actress in which reality and cinema becomes blurred. An epic tale of a woman chasing a mysterious man throughout a millennium.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time:

When 17-year-old Makoto Konno gains the ability to, quite literally, “leap” backwards through time, she immediately sets about improving her grades and preventing personal mishaps. However, she soon realises that changing the past isn’t as simple as it seems, and eventually, will have to rely on her new powers to shape the future of herself and her friends.

Azumanga Daioh:

The day-to-day antics of a group of high school girls. Wacky Tomo, child prodigy Chiyo, perfectionist Yomi, oddball Osaka, and cool Sakaki go through high school with their immature homeroom teacher Yukari.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica:

After experiencing a bizarre dream, Madoka Kaname, a kind 14-year-old girl, encounters a magical creature named Kyube. Madoka and her friend Sayaka Miki are offered the opportunity of gaining magical powers if they agree to make a contract with the strange little being. He will also grant them one wish, but in exchange they shall risk their lives by accepting the responsibility of fighting witches. Invisible to human eyes, witches are catalysts of despair in the areas they inhabit. An ally of Kyube, a magical girl named Mami Tomoe, befriends and encourages the two girls to accept the contract. For an unknown reason, another magical girl named Homura Akemi is determined to prevent Madoka from accepting the deal.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann:

Kamina and Simon are stuck living in an underground village until they discover a drill mech and are able to escape to the surface. They form the Gurren Brigade, a mech-based resistance against the beast men who forced them into their underground homes.  A show so awesome that this description simply does it no justice.

Princess Tutu:

In a fairy tale book, a storyteller turns a duck into a young girl in order to collect and restore pieces of a prince’s shattered heart. The girl awakes in a different world where various individuals are possessed by the emotions of the heart pieces, which she can remove via the power of dance. Elements of Miyazaki, Utena and shoujo combine to create a stylized, deep and dark fairy tale, with exquisite classical pieces.

Gundam 0080:

0079 of the Universal Century, the devastating One Year War between the Federation and the Principality of Zeon is approaching its final stages. Zeon caught word that the Federation is developing a new Gundam at the neutral colony of Side 6, so they dispatched the Cyclops team to infiltrate the colony and destroy the Gundam. Al, a 10-year-old boy on Side 6 who is obsessed with grand space wars and fantastic mobile suits, bumps into Barnie, a rookie pilot on the Cyclops team. This OVA series is a powerful anti-war side story set in the Gundam universe.

FLCL:

FLCL is Gainax’s highly acclaimed atypical coming-of-age story about a boy who starts releasing robots from his forehead after being hit there by an alien’s bass guitar.  To put it into words would be truly challenging, but it is a series that everyone should experience at least once.  We will be showing this series dubbed.

Perfect Hair Forever:

Perfect Hair Forever follows a young boy named Gerald as he quests to obtain the perfect hair to remedy his premature baldness. It is a parody of all things anime, and created by Williams Street for Adult Swim.

Soultaker:

Kyosuke Date’s life becomes a waking nightmare as he discover that his mother was murdered, he is a powerful mutant, and fragments of his sister’s soul have become humanlike creatures called “Flickers.”  If that doesn’t seem to make any sense, it’s because it simply doesn’t.  Just enjoy it!

Elf Princess Reine:

Gou has woved to find the legendary treasure of Salamander. Searching for it he meets Ren, a fairy, who is looking for the four treasures of Heart. Gou’s childhood friend Mari is frustrated with Gou running after treasures, but befriends with another fairy Rin. Gou and Ren’s treasure hunt messes with a secret project led by Mari’s father. It turns out Salamander isn’t what Gou thought it was in the first place…

No. 6:

Macross Plus:

Breathtaking visuals and stunning aerobatic sequences underscore a story of three old friends struggling to make peace with the past.

Cyborg 009:

An evil organization known as Black Ghost has abducted various people from around the world and has turned them into cyborgs with extraordinary powers. The show follows nine such cyborgs and their attempt to gain freedom from Black Ghost.

They Were Eleven:

The elite Cosmo Academy attracts applicants from every stellar nation in the galaxy. One young hopeful is Tadatos Lane, an orphan esper from Terra. The final stage of the academy’s entrance exam is a perilous mission simulation aboard an actual derelict starship. The applicants depart for the ships in groups of ten, but when Tada’s crew arrives on the Esperanza, they are horrified to discover that they now number eleven. As the test progresses, things go awry and the atmosphere grows increasingly tense. The crew members begin to suspect sabotage, and Tada appears to be the likely culprit.

Fate/Zero:

The War of the Holy Grail is a contest in which seven magi summon seven Heroic Spirits to compete to obtain the power of the “Holy Grail,” which grants a miracle.

Gekiganger 3:

The show within a show of Martian Sucessor Nadesico that can be seen without any knowledge of Nadesico. A Getter Robo parody.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam:

In F.C. 60, the 13th Gundam Fight begins. Domon Kasshu pilots the Shining Gundam as the representative of Neo-Japan, the Japanese space colony. Along with his crew member Rain Mikamura, he battles the other countries’ representatives in order to earn the right to rule Earth and the colonies for four years for Neo-Japan. However, Domon seems to be more concerned with finding his brother and the stolen Devil Gundam.

Star Driver:

Takuto washes up on the shore of Southern Cross Isle one night after swimming there from the mainland. He enrolls in the High School and becomes fast friends with Wako and Sugata. Under the island, though, is a collection of giants known as Cybodies. Takuto, as the Galactic Pretty Boy (“Ginga Bishonen”), fights against the Glittering Crux Brigade to prevent them from taking control of the Cybodies.

Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo:

Years after the defeat of the Reptilian Empire, Getter Team has begun training on a new super robot, Neo Getter Robo. But a surprise attack from the Empire’s revived leader forces them to recruit a street fighter named Go Ichimonji as Getter One’s pilot. Faced with an enormously powerful foe, the new team’s only hope for victory may lie in the resurrection of the lost weapon of humanity, Shin Getter Robo.

With this absolutely insane schedule, we’re sure to have something everyone will like (and we’re sure to drive our showing committee insane as well).  Make sure you come by this Saturday for our first showing, Movie Night!
