CJAS Semester Marathon – December 1

The semester is already at its end!  That means studying, and finals, and the long-awaited trip home… but MOST importantly, it means that it’s time for the MARATHON!

That’s right, CJAS’s semester marathon is coming up on December 1st, right after your last classes come to a close.  Come spend a whole 12 hours (or as many of those as you’d like) with us to view our great schedule!

Now, this is important: WE ARE IN KAUFMANN AUDITORIUM UNTIL 3 PM. That’s the auditorium right next to Lewis, where we normally have showing.  So, we’ll watch everything including Black Jack in Kaufmann, then head over to Lewis during the break.

Don’t forget to come early and try to get into our GAME SHOW!  At 4:25 PM, three contestants’ anime knowledge will be put to the ULTIMATE TEST, a head-to-head competition for FABULOUS PRIZES!!! (disclaimer: prizes may or may not be fabulous)

Enough silliness!  Here’s the schedule for you!  Come for as long as you’d like, whenever you’d like.

Last minute substitution: MECHA NIGHT

Discotek acquired the license for Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo early in 2012.  We were counting on them releasing this series on DVD, but that still hasn’t happened.  And so, we’re forced to make a substitution.

Instead of Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo, we will be showing the series that finished next in our voting, The Vision of Escaflowne.  As this was voted in as two episodes, this will also push out one episode of G Gundam.  Don’t worry, though, there’s still one more in the schedule!

Studio Ghibli and the Cornell Cinema

CJAS has some exciting news for all fans of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli!

While licensing costs are usually too expensive for us to show any of these films, a special touring series of new Studio Ghibli prints is coming to the Cornell Cinema this fall!  CJAS will be co-sponsoring this series, so make sure you go and get your tickets!

More information on this special event after the jump.

EMERGENCY SUBSTITUTION!

Tokyo Godfathers?  More like, Tokyo Not- uh… fathers…  um… yeah, we can’t show it.

UPDATE: We will show two random episodes of Azumanga Daioh, followed by the conclusion of the first arc of Humanity has Declined.  Showing will start at 7 as usual.

Due to licensing issues, the scourge of every modern anime club, we will not be able to show our movie, Tokyo Godfathers this week.  But fear not!

How we are becoming a Goblin Economy

At the outset, let me say that I am not an expert in any of these things. Also, this is a discussion of ideas, not a search for problems nor solutions.

All right, so J. K. Rowling is notorious (at least to me) for bringing up a lot of controversial topics and then proceeding to ignore them completely. (I’m looking at you House Elf Rights Activists!) One of her most interesting ideas was the goblin opinion on ownership. In the book, it is a small matter that acts primarily as a plot device regarding the sword of Gryffindor. Basically, the goblins want it back because they believe that ownership of any object belongs to its creator.

Whether you like Magic the Gathering, trivia, video games, live performances or anything else, we will try to have something to keep you occupied. As seen above, the event will take place in RPCC starting at about 8pm.

CJAS Doujin Day

Like to draw? Want an art challenge? If so, then do we have an event for you!

This Saturday, April 7th, starting at noon, the Cornell Japanese Animation Society is hosting a doujin creation marathon, somewhere in Goldwin Smith Hall! Check out the poster attached for kitties and information.

Not sure what a doujin is? It’s basically any amateur work, and in this case, we will be trying to put together a short comic in under 24 hours!

Can’t draw? Doesn’t matter! We need a story too, after all! If you can write a story, you can contribute!

In short we need people who can: Write, storyboard, draw, line, shade, and have fun! No need to bring anything aside from yourself as we will be providing food, drinks, and art supplies for everyone interested and attending.

Hope to see you guys there!
