Brawl Stars Revolution

During the Fall of 2024, one game captivated the hearts of the Club Officers, minus og ’25: Brawl Stars. Brawl Stars is a mobile game developed and published by Supercell, the same creators of Clash Royale, Clash of Clans, and several other mobile games. It was released on December 12, 2018, yet somehow eluded the radar of the officers until September 11th, 2024. I, Jakene ’26, the illustrious president known as the Eminence in Shadow in the Discord, was introduced to the game by one of my coworkers at my job at the Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management, using it to pass time between events. Soon after I got hooked, and tried introducing it to the Eboard soon after. VP Doan ’25, Treasurer Brian ’27, Morthos ’28, Monky ’26, and Super Senior Will ’24(?) were the only ones to heed the call and play as well, though not as much as Doan and myself. In game, a club was created by Doan to spread the influence of the Cornell Anime Club even further, thus incorporating our presence into this virtual world to dominate it as well, just as we have done to reality. It is worth noting that former Vice President Eric (pizza6000) ’23 self describes himself as a Brawl Stars beast back in his Cornell days. Clearly he was not as awesome as me if he wasn’t able to get the other officers on the wave as well.

So, why do I make this post today during Thanksgiving break? To make the official announcement that the Anime Club at Cornell, formerly the Cornell Japanese Animation Society, formerly the Cornell Japanimation Society, will now henceforth be known as the Cornell Brawl Stars Association. Anime will no longer be our primary focus, instead our club will revolve around this beautiful mobile game. From 2 – 5 pm in Goldwin Smith Hall Room G76, we will play Solo Showdown from 2-3:30, then we will have an intermission, and afterwards we’ll play Brawl Ball from 4 – 5 pm in order to practice our team work. Afterwards dinner will be eaten on West, and Brawl Stars will be played again after 10 minutes of eating until the chosen dining room is closed, which typically happens around 7:30 or 8. Join me in celebrating this exhilarating development in the history of the Cornell Brawl Stars Association, formerly one of the oldest anime clubs in the nation. If you would like to join the in game Brawl Stars club, reach out to me via Discord!

Thank you for your years of dedication to the Cornell Anime Club! A new chapter has begun in our story, so please continue to support us going forward in the form of buying us gems so we can purchase more skins in game!

(This goes without saying, this article is a work of satire. We are still the Cornell Anime Club)

How we are becoming a Goblin Economy

At the outset, let me say that I am not an expert in any of these things. Also, this is a discussion of ideas, not a search for problems nor solutions.

All right, so J. K. Rowling is notorious (at least to me) for bringing up a lot of controversial topics and then proceeding to ignore them completely. (I’m looking at you House Elf Rights Activists!) One of her most interesting ideas was the goblin opinion on ownership. In the book, it is a small matter that acts primarily as a plot device regarding the sword of Gryffindor. Basically, the goblins want it back because they believe that ownership of any object belongs to its creator.

Capcom Booth @ NYCC

As soon as someone entered the southern show floor, they would be greeted with the massive Capcom booth, home to heavily advertised Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 demo stations. While the majority were there to play either the aforementioned UMvC3 or Street Fighter X Tekken, I went to check out two new properties they will release next year: Dragon’s Dogma and Asura’s Wrath.

Taken from http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2011/04/12/captivate_2011:_asuras_wrath

The first up was Asura’s Wrath, a beat-’em-up developed by CyberConnect2 (known for their work on the .hack franchise) for the XBox 360 and PS3. There were two different demos set up at the booth detailing what appeared to be two different boss battles from the game. As I waited in line to play, I examined the two different scenarios, one on the moon, and the other against what appeared to be a large flying beast. My turn finally came; it was time to kick some demigod ass.
